What’s Your “One Thing”?

The One Thing by Gary Keller and Jay Papasan is one of the most influential books in the self-help category. The whole point of the book is that there’s “ONE THING” that will make your business/ life/ relationships better. Figure out what that one thing is and ONLY DO that one thing until you succeed.

During my five and a half drive up from Los Angeles this weekend. I started thinking of the One Thing that I need to be doing everyday to have the best life. Here’s my list:

Mentality

Meditation for 30 minutes a day. I felt so sharp and so aligned with myself after I meditated for 10 days straight at the Vipassana retreat. I planned on continuing the practice of meditation when I came back home, but I quickly realized how hard it was to fit an extra 30 minutes of meditation into a busy schedule.

Meditation will help me stay focused and give me the quiet time I need to clear out the random noises in my head.

Physical

Hit the gym! I go to the gym pretty often and I feel very healthy. As long as I can maintain my strategy of going to the gym by default and only skipping on certain occasions, then I’ll be just fine.

My gym sessions are very simple and take me between 45 minutes to an hour to complete. I do each exercise with 3 sets and 10 reps, with a total of 8 exercises. The workout always start with pull-ups and end with a core workout. I just fill in the middle with random machines I see that are open.

The simpler you make it, the easier it will be!

Knowledge

Write one blog post a day. By forcing myself to write a new post every day, I’m forced to stay updated on the latest news pieces and I’m learning how to write better articles.

I’m using the method that I learned from my podcast guest. Scour the internet for an interesting article on the subject you want to talk about. Read through the article, then write your version of the news story and give credit to the original article!

Business

Cold call! If I can put in the effort to cold call people to set up appointments on a consistent basis, I will be successful in this business.

Things Not To Do

Youtube is one of my biggest vices. I’m tempted on an hourly basis to drop everything I’m doing to veg out and watch a Youtube video of someone playing a videogame that I haven’t played in over five years. I love seeing them do cool plays and enjoy their live commentary.

However, I know that the hour I spend watching that video is an hour that I could have been working, reading, meditating, or hanging out with friends. It’s not worth it!

What’s Your “One Thing?”

We love to over-complicate things. But when it comes down to it, there’s usually only one thing that you need to do to become successful at your goal. What is that “one thing?”. Leave a comment below!
