I just completed the 5.5 hour drive from San Jose to Los Angeles without turning on the radio, listening to podcasts, or watching YouTube (I did text my fair share of friends though).
During that drive, I stumbled across a Facebook post from someone I really admire. In the past 25 years as an attorney, he’s dealt with families, death and money. From his experiences, he found that no one ever wishes they had more money, or that they spent more time trying to impress others, but everyone wishes they spent more time HELPING others.
That really hit home for me, and I started to think of ways to add value to people’s lives. Here’s a list I came up with, and they all end in ‘-tion’.
People want to be inspired. They come out of a Tony Robbin’s program feeling like a million-bucks! By giving inspiration, you can take someone who’s down on their luck and help them find their inner beast. You help them unlock the potential and help them find the way that they can help others. It’s an exponential way to making the world a better place.
Inspire people who will then inspire others.
Since the dawn of time, education has been one of the key traits to our success as a species. Imagine having to relearn everything from birth, we’d be stuck in the stone ages forever! It’s because we passed down information from generation to generation that we’ve been able to focus our energies on compounding the knowledge instead of spinning our wheels trying to figure everything out on our own.
Issac Newton once said: “If I have seen further than others, it is by standing on the shoulders of giants”
Education is a limiting factor that prevents people to getting what they want. By being a source of education, you empower others to achieve their goals.
Simplifying a complicated problem is a huge way to add value in someone’s life. Most businesses are created on this premise alone. Think about how an electrician can come to your home to fix your doorbell. Yes, you could do it all yourself and spend hours figuring it out, but hiring an electrician will simplify this task for you and allow you to focus on the important things in your life.
Wholesaling is simplifying the process of getting leads to rehabbers. Rehabbers are simplifying the lives of end-buyers who don’t want to spend time remodeling their own home.
You could even simplify a complex concept to explain it in a different way! This goes back to education. The simpler a concept is explained, the easier it is to digest. Simplify and you will add value!
By creating entertainment, products, or platforms, you make a new way for people to express themselves. Think about the toy that you loved to play with when you were a child (like my purple Barney doll). That was created by someone who wanted to spread joy!
Think about what could be created that could help people with their daily lives.
Who doesn’t want more friends? If you have a large network, make it a point to introduce them to each other! Sharing resources with your friends helps everyone and doesn’t affect you negatively in any way. In fact, they’ll thank you for connecting them in the first place!
P.S. I have a large database of real estate professionals and investors that I refer business to. If you want your name on this list, leave a comment below and I’ll add you!
There are many ways to add value. When I take a look at this list and think about the hours I spent in the car reflecting on this topic, I think about the largest question…What do people want?
If you spend your time creating things that people don’t want, then you’re just wasting time. If you introduce people who don’t want to meet each other, you’re wasting everyone else’s time!
Think about your end ‘customer’, who is the person you want to help and add value too.
How are you adding value?
