178 – How To Create A Rockstar Mastermind Group with Adam Carswell

Synopsis

Adam is a real estate entrepreneur and podcast host. He’s also associated with two firms namely, Asym Capital and Concordia Realty Corporation. Marketing is his forte and in today’s show, we find out about LinkedIn networking and creating a one of a kind Mastermind group.

Key points

Getting Into Real Estate

Adam started his real estate journey when he was working at Sherwin-Williams, a paint store in Washington DC. He wanted to get into a Fortune 500 company.

He ended up doing residential properties with RE/MAX before he got real estate investment expert Hunter Thompson as his mentor. Adam became one of the first 5 students to go through Hunter’s Cash Flow Connections Mentorship Program, which has been running since 2017.

Before meeting Hunter, he had been trying to figure out real estate, but after the mentorship program, things snowballed. He describes Hunter as a sophisticated, killer capital raiser. Hunter also wrote the playbook for raising capital, Raising Capital for Real Estate, which received rave reviews on LinkedIn.

Adam suggests that new investors take action, follow up, and reach out to people they want to meet. He learned a lot from Hunter, and he was able to tap into connections he would never have had access to.

Working At Asym Capital

At Asym Capital, Adam works with investors to bring capital to the table. Outside of the firm, he’s active in LinkedIn and his mastermind group.

Creating A Rockstar Mastermind Group

Starting a mastermind group is a step-by-step process. Their idea was to make sure everyone comes together and starts talking. Adam suggests applying the law of scarcity in a friendly manner. They’ve been firm on the number of people they let in, which is why they only have 18 members.

If there’s no cap on the number of people you let in, people wouldn’t value the invitation as much. For them, it’s important to add as much value to the group. They also place an emphasis on time and make sure to end their 90-minute meetings on time.

Meetings usually start with big wins. They chose LinkedIn as their centralized platform and created a non-disclosure agreement (NDA) everyone had to sign so that they’ll take things more seriously.

When constructing a mastermind group, be respectful of people’s time. Holding meetings once a month is good already.

Choosing LinkedIn

LinkedIn was a commonality among the founders who spend a significant amount of time on it. They did their application process for the group on LinkedIn, putting out a call for movers and shakers. Applicants were required to submit a 60-second video telling them how they can add value to the group.

The 6 founding members did a voting process to put together the group. Their only requirement for all members is for everyone to consistently add value.

Future Plans

Right now, their group is focused on each other. One thing they’re working on now is an idea that came up within the group. But in the foreseeable future, Adam believes they’ll continue to stay as it is.

What’s Next

Adam is looking forward to his group’s monthly meeting in July.

As for Asym Capital, he’s been finding it hard to focus given the current circumstances. So he is working on their educational platform and focusing on how they can add value to their students. They only take on 14 students per quarter as this gives each more one-on-one time with Hunter.

With Concordia Realty, they’re about to launch their Liberty Real Estate Fund, which is a security token offering. They also have their own meetup group, the Chicago Blockchain Real Estate Collective which is meeting again on July 9 with the next one 3 weeks after.

Thoughts On The Current Climate

Adam thinks that there is too much fear and uncertainty for most to act. But that’s actually when you should act.

The market is starting to open up, but we should probably wait until Q4 to see if things are back to normal. After the election, he predicts that we’ll start to see a bounce back.

Choosing Blockchain For Real Estate

Each token represents shares or a percentage of the portfolio of properties. Blockchain allows them to have a quicker transaction time. Plus, there’s more transparency as people see everything that’s taking place.

Networking On LinkedIn

It all started with somebody on the mastermind. Adam first met her at a networking event. He studied how she conducted herself on LinkedIn and realized that people gravitate to her for her personality. She was a goofball, and people loved it.

It’s key to just be yourself. You can post daily or 3-5 times a week.

Podcast

For Season 1 of his podcast Dream Chasers, Adam interviewed individuals who bring in their projects and ideas that show massive promise for the future.

For Season 2, he is now focusing on always trying to see if they can find an interesting angle to take away that no one else is looking at. He has had people come in to talk about the art of storytelling and the art of letting go.

Adam wants to cover interesting topics normally not being spoken about in podcasts. This is why he had the host of the Investor Mindset podcast, Steven Pesavento, come in and share about the spiritual healing work he had done to align his soul with his mind.
