185 – Changing Your Subconscious To Become a Winner with Paul Ross

Synopsis

Paul is a master hypnotist, master trainer and practitioner in neuro-linguistic programming, and author of the critically-acclaimed book “Subtle Words That Sell: How To Get Your Prospects To Convince Themselves To Buy And Add Top Dollars To Your Bottom Line”. Today, Paul reveals how we can tap into the power of the subconscious mind to supercharge our sales efforts.

Key points

Paul teaches successful people how they can massively increase their revenue by using subconscious communication. As an example, when it comes to selling you are not selling the product but you are selling the decisions and good feelings which are made at an unconscious level.

So to be successful, you need to balance your mindset so that you are largely neutral looking at the facts with just the right amount of enthusiasm. This process is shaped by the language you use.

Applying Subconscious Communication

There are two aspects of subconscious communication, intrapersonal and interpersonal communication. That means when talking with people, you have to use the power of suggestion to create a state where people are focused.

One example to do this would be to set a time limit on yourself when making cold calls. Explain that you only have a minute to share something with them. Also, use words like “opportunity outreach” instead of “deal”.

Salespeople often make the mistake of giving details, facts, and data. When you do a presentation like that, you’re on the other side of the table.

To be on the same side of the table as the customer, use words like “we”, “share”, “together”, “invite”. For example, start with, “As we’re exploring this together today, I invite you to share the natural questions that arise from this opportunity.”

This language implies to their subconscious mind that you’re on the same side as them, and you’re the leader.

Getting Out Of Your Funk

To improve from having a poor mindset, Paul advises people to recite this, which he does three times in the morning.

“I am blessed to have challenges in my life.”

“I am blessed to joyously, courageously, creatively face my challenges in my life.”

“I am blessed to joyously, courageously, creatively conquer my challenges in my life.”

See challenges as blessings. This way, you stop seeing at it as something happening to you. You see it now as something offered to you.

In addition, look at the rejection as a blessing and bless the person who rejected you. This lets you develop investing as a spiritual practice.

People need to understand that chaos and confusion are part of life, and radical acceptance and precision are at the heart of success.

What Is Ownership Language

Our mind works on frequency, repetition, and momentum. So when you dwell on mistakes, your brain thinks that it must be what you want to do.

Using “claim” instead of “must” is a way to take ownership and keep your confidence without must-erbating and pitying yourself.

Developing A Great Learning Strategy

Most people have crappy learning strategies. This is because we didn’t know how to learn from every lesson.

It’s important to be in a state of mind where you have clarity and compassion so that you can look at your patterns of behaviors rather than at them.

Go into a trance state and first look at what you did right. So rather than figuring out what was wrong, program yourself to find what’s effective and ineffective.

Meditation is helpful as it allows you to distance yourself from your struggles and get the “F’ out of your own way and the bad habits of thinking you have on an unconscious level.

Last Tips

Think of yourself as a decision service technician. So get the heck out of your own way.

Remember that language is powerful.
